Not from the Pulpit: Fr Andy Nguyen SJ

Last Sunday, we celebrated the Solemnity of the Baptism of the Lord, marking the end of the Christmas Season and bringing in the First Week in Ordinary Time. It also brought the change to the North Sydney Jesuit Community, as we had anticipated. This past week, Fr Brett arrived and hit the ground running with a funeral and was inducted into the technological wizardry of the online Mass. One same day, Fr Sacha departed for East Timor at an ungodly hour in the morning. We are missing him already. Fr Joseph and I returned from our Jesuit holiday (Villa, as we call it) to see Fr Richard off for his holiday break.

The previous Sunday, the Church celebrated the Epiphany of the Lord. In some places, in keeping with tradition, following the proclamation of the Gospel, a deacon or cantor announces from the ambo the moveable feasts of the current year according to the following text:

Know, dear brothers and sisters,

that, as we have rejoiced at the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ,

by leave of God's mercy, we also announce to you the joy of his Resurrection,

who is our Saviour.

On the fifth day of March will fall Ash Wednesday,

and the beginning of the fast of the most sacred Lenten season.

On the twentieth day of April you will celebrate with joy Easter Day,

the Paschal feast of our Lord Jesus Christ.

On the first day of June will be the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ.

On the eighth day of June, the feast of Pentecost.

On the twenty-second day of June, the feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.

On the thirtieth day of November, the First Sunday of the Advent of our Lord Jesus Christ,

to whom is honour and glory for ever and ever.

Amen.
