Not from the Pulpit: Fr Richard Leonard SJ PP

I am delighted to see the many downloads from the parish website of the Australian Women Preach Podcast as a preparation for the Sunday readings. https://australianwomenpreach.com.au/.

We have had several funerals in the parish recently. Just a reminder that Alan Panambalana’ s funeral will be celebrated at SFX, Lavender Bay, at 10am on Tuesday 23rd July. Alan served our parish with singular devotion, especially in his faithful ministry to the sick and the homebound. RIP.

They often talk about “hidden poverty”, and while Greenway Social Housing physically looms large on the Kirribilli landscape, chances are most parishioners have never been there. Guy De Villiers and his team at Star of the Sea have made contact with the residents at Greenway. Guy and his team are after used or new blankets that you might share with those at Greenway who have few, or no decent blankets. Details are below, but they can be left at the Mass you are attending this Sunday for collection.

I will be on sabbatical from August 11 to November 12. In my absence, the Archbishop has approved the Jesuit Provincial’s nomination of Fr Andy as parish administrator. The Provincial has also appointed Fr Sacha as the acting Superior of the Jesuit Community. This is my second sabbatical in the almost 31 years since my priestly ordination. I will be writing my 14th book.

Please join us for the 10.30am Mass followed by morning tea on Sunday July 28 at our twinned parish of Holy Family, Emerton/Mt Druitt. Please tell the parish office on 8918 4101 firstly for catering purposes, but especially if you need a lift, or if can provide other parishioners with a ride. It will be a very special way for our two Jesuit parishes to anticipate the feast of St Ignatius Loyola (July 31).

Our parish will celebrate St Ignatius Loyola’s Feast day at the Masses on August 3 and 4. On August 10 and 11 we will celebrate St Mary Mackillop’s Feast day, and have a special High Afternoon Tea at 2pm in the RDC in honour of the religious women and men of the parish.

St Ignatius Day Walk

Sun 4 Aug after the 9am Mass, St Mary’s

To commemorate St Ignatius' Day, thousands of Australians

will take part in ‘One Foot Raised' and walk in solidarity with the people of Myanmar. As a Jesuit Parish, Our Lady of the Way will be following in the footsteps of St Ignatius, joining this community action, awareness raising, and fundraising campaign for our sisters and brothers in crisis right now. St Ignatius described the ideal leader as living with “One Foot Raised,” ready to step forward and respond to human need and suffering in the world.

As a Parish Community, we'll walk together on Sunday, 4th August after the 9am Mass. Kristian Casali (OLW Youth Minister) will be our team captain. The walk will offer a choice of 2km or 4km routes, depending on your comfort level, and it will not be challenging. More information to follow (route, distance, etc.) Sign up here, go to:  click on 'join us,' scroll down, and fill in your 'Personal Details.' Please join us in this wonderful initiative!
