Since I am unable to post my reply in Fr. Aloysious Mowe's blog titled, 'Do we see Australian Muslims as the Trojan Horse inside our walls?' -- I thought it might be best to begin a seperate post, even though it's a direct reply to elements of his thread in answering the question in his title.

Interesting post Fr. Mowe, I acknowledge you have taken the time from your busy schedule to raise this matter for consideration and comment. Whilst I know that computers exist and there is this thing called the internet where one can even go to seek out Muslims condemning violence and terror, I humbly believe you may be missing a critical point in your understanding of the matter. Indeed I can prove it.

I don't believe this is an issue about people finding satisfaction for themselves about the perception of Muslims in our society by hearing Muslims condemn violence and terror. It is a much deeper matter than that, I believe, and you touch on it when you provide us with the quote from the tumblr post: "[i]Lurking behind many demands for Muslims to condemn acts of terror committed by Muslims or done allegedly in the name of the Islamic faith: it is a fundamental distrust of the Islamic religion, and of all Muslims.[/i]" And then go on to ask the important question: "[i]Why are Australian Muslims expected to condemn Muslim extremists in the Middle East?[/i]"

If we can agree that we are living in a world created by great European men, we might also agree that these men may have something to tell us about how we might possibly navigate through some of the present problems in our society. For instance, German philosopher Mr. Max Weber is worth examining here in relation to the explanations and justifications in each of our world's religious systems being about a complete and total explanation of human life in the prophet-priest pattern; and Mr. Weber, writes British journalist and author Mr. Bryan Appleyard, "[i]characterized each by the ideally perfect carrier of each faith[/i]", where Mr. Weber wrote, "[i]In Judaism, the wandering trader; In Christianity, the itinerant journeyman; [b]In Islam, the warrior seeking to conquer the world.[/b][/i]"

Of course I would argue that Australian Muslims have everything to do with Muslim extremists in the Middle East when they both raise their Holy Book as the foundation for living their lives. If one group can interpret violence and one interpret peace, Australian people have every right to seek answers by asking questions of Muslims in their midst. Demanding such answers from Australian Muslims comes from the Australian people voicing confusion surrounding their understanding of Islam. They are essentially asking themselves this one main question: [u]How is it that two such wildly opposing interpretations can be formed from the Koran, and can (or will) Australian Muslims eventually find the same interpretation as justification for murder that ISIL has found for themselves, presently[/u]?

The first mosque might have been built in Australia in 1861, but the "[i]warrior seeking to conquer the world[/i]" at least in Australia, came relatively soon after, when in 1915 supporters of the Ottoman Empire in WWI, Badsha Mahommed Gool and Mullah Abdullah conducted a terrorist attack in what has come to be known as the 'Battle of Broken Hill'. Political and religious in nature, the attack by these two Muslims killed four people and wounded seven. Miss Alma Cowie, who was killed whilst travelling to a picnic, was just seventeen years old.

Unlike Jews, or Buddhists, or even Catholics, Muslims are the ones whom have been identified as warriors, and with such a history, the Australian people and indeed members of our own congregation have every right to question as closely and exhaustively as is warranted, Muslim motives and intentions in our Australian society. To go some way to answer your question: "[i]Why is it that we hold Muslims to standards that we do not apply to other minorities, or even to ourselves?[/i]" If the interpretations of the Koran are so vastly different that medieval madness and evil can be interpreted as a justified form of action in the name of G_D, Australian Muslims must answer how their interpretation of peace and harmony is being found in that same Holy Book.

Also, Australian Catholics did not travel to Dublin in vast numbers to fight with the IRA, and the IRA did not attack innocent Australians in Australia. In fact, Catholics and Protestants do not fight any longer. Jews do not travel to Germany to murder Skinheads because these right-wing White Supremacists support what Hitler stood for. Most people come to Australia to get as far away as possible from past conflicts and tribal animosities, and that's precisely why Australians reject the importers of violence from other parts of the world. That so many Muslims have returned to the Middle East to fight with ISIL, shows that Australian fears about Muslims in our midst are justified, and asking questions and demanding answers is perfectly acceptable, even though it might look like it's inconsistent with the teachings our faith demands.

So you see Fr., by you saying that; "[i]When we ask Muslims in Australia to speak out against the terror in Syria and Iraq, we are saying that violence resides in Islam itself and in being Muslim[/i]" -- you are in fact admitting that you are unaware of Mr. Max Weber, and him identifying the "[i]ideally perfect carrier[/i]" in Islam, because in Islam the Muslim is a warrior, and warriors hold swords to conquer others through violent acts.

Australia is a Christian nation both historically and presently, so Muslims are different from us simply by adhering to a different religion, and they should be held to close scrutiny because of what is happening in the name of their religion. To treat Australian Muslims without this close scrutiny, would not only be irresponsible, but it would also be disrespecting the short life of Miss Alma Cowie.

Finally, to answer the question in your blog post title -- if the Trojans might have interrogated the remaining Greeks about the nature and meaning of the Trojan Horse, they may have discovered the warriors within, prior to bringing it into their city.
